Malaysia is famous for her multiethnic population and each ethnic group has its own unique culture. One of the states in Malaysia that portrays this unique culture is Sabah as it is known for its indigenous tribe. The Bisaya tribe is one of Sabah indigenous communities that mainly resides in Sabah’s interior and contributes to the diversity and uniqueness of Sabah indigenous community and Malaysia in general. As the study of culture has very broad scope, the focus of this working paper is limited to Bisaya’s tribe traditional dance known as Liliput and Tumutu. This dance reflects its own culture and identity. The dances itself potrayed the ritual and the worldview of Bisaya’s society. Therefore, it is very interesting to study the interrelationships between concept, movement, music rhythms of that dance with the belief system, socioeconomic activity, thinking and cultural values of traditional Bisaya community. This study also attempts to promote the Bisaya cultural heritage so that, that it is known to today’s generation and also in the future at the national and international level. Apart from that, this documentation is needed in order to preserve Malaysia’s traditional cultural heritage so that it will not extinct in the ever changing and modernization society.
