The spreading of information and communication technologies fosters qualitative changes in pedagogical practices, allowing the creation of learning communities among students of different parts of the world. In fact, the integration of these technologies, namely the Internet, in the teaching-learning process, allows the development of working competences based on autonomy. By systematically working with multimedia resources, learners, the so-called pronétaires (Rosnay, 2006), develop practices of confrontation, organization, selection and structuring of knowledge with the Other, in which they are able to reconstruct it with the teacher’s help. Having into account the critical pedagogy for emancipation (cf. Freire, 1997; Giroux, 1997), fostered by the development of a critical cultural conscience and multi-referentiality of knowledge, this paper aims at analyzing how learners of different linguistic and cultural backgrounds develop their critical cultural conscience (cf. Byram, 1997), when they are requested to work in an online collaborative environment: 2ndschool.eu. This platform, which was especially conceived to help learners in the process of questioning, includes different electronic communication instruments, namely chat, discussion forums and e-mail messaging, but also allows learners to publish videos, audio texts, pictures, texts, etc. The main product of this project is the creation of critical analyses of present-day topics of national or international news by the different international teams.
