With a positive spiritual development comes emotional stability and enhancement of mental abilities, ability to discern and decide. By integrating spiritual element in education, we can inculcate the values necessary to create a good society. Education therefore must be made to enable the individual to have positive qualities of character and high ideals and values which are essential for fulfillment in life and make the world a better one.No doubt, the higher education institutions today need to recapture the sense of values and purpose that brought us to our various roles and responsibilities. Thus, this paper is an effort to see how the higher education institution could play its role in integrating the spiritual dimension in the education as a means to transform a future generation for a sustainable society.

Ratna Roshida Binti Ab Razak is a senior lecturer at the School of Humanities in the Section of Philosophy and Civilizations, Universiti Sains Malaysia, USM. She teaches Islamic and Asian Civilizations, Ethnics Relations and Critical Thinking courses. Her research interests comprise the human and humanity aspects. A special focus is given on the spritual dimension. The current research projects are on women empowerment through the human capital development focusing on family institutions, the application of collapse theory of civilization on the collapse of Angkor Civilization.
